Peter Cistulli, MBBS
Professor Peter Cistulli holds the ResMed Chair in Sleep Medicine at the University of Sydney, where he leads the Sleep Research Theme within the multidisciplinary Charles Perkins Centre, and heads the Discipline of Sleep Medicine within the Faculty of Medicine and Health. He is also Clinical Director of the Centre for Sleep Health & Research in the Department of Respiratory and Sleep Medicine at Royal North Shore Hospital, Sydney. He is an active physician- researcher with 28 years’ experience in the fields of respiratory and sleep medicine. His thematic research has focused on the pathophysiology of Sleep-disordered Breathing, and novel approaches to therapy. He is a former president of the Australasian Sleep Association, and was recently awarded its Distinguished Achievement Award for exceptional contributions to sleep science and sleep health.
Atul Malhotra, M.D.
Professor Atul Malhotra is a board-certified pulmonologist, intensivist and Research chief of Pulmonary, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine. He is active clinically in pulmonary, critical care and sleep medicine. In the sleep clinic, he provides a full spectrum of diagnostic and therapeutic services to patients with sleep-related disorders, including sleep apnea, insomnia, restless leg syndrome, narcolepsy and sleep disorders associated with medical or psychiatric conditions. He has a special interest in the treatment of sleep apnea. Dr. Malhotra is the recent president of the American Thoracic Society. He has taught and presented his research on sleep-related disorders locally, regionally, nationally and internationally. He has published more than 300 original manuscripts in leading journals.
Jean-Louis Pepin, M.D.
Professor Jean-Louis Pepin is an international expert in clinical and translational research on cardio metabolic consequences of chronic and intermittent hypoxia, sleep apnea, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and chronic respiratory failure. He runs the French national registry of sleep apnea (> 110,000 subjects) and is involved in the European Sleep Apnea Database (ESADA). He participates on a regular basis in European and US thoracic society task forces (five in last three years). He has demonstrated capabilities both in academic positions and as a leader of huge national randomized controlled trials, transdisciplinary programs (see below) and EIT-Health European projects.

Jeff Armitstead, PhD
Dr. Jeff Armitstead is Vice President of the Clinical Science & Development team within Medical Affairs at ResMed. Jeff holds a PhD and engineering degree from the University of NSW and the Queensland University of Technology and is an Adjunct Professor of Biomedical Engineering at the University of Sydney. Jeff also has training in business strategy from the Drucker school of management. Jeff has over 20 years experience in medical devices and the biomedical engineering field, both in industry and academia. Jeff is published internationally and is the principal or contributing author of many patents.
Meredith Barrett, PhD
Dr. Meredith Barrett is Vice President of Population Health Research, leading the Digital Health Insights research team within Medical Affairs at ResMed. Prior to ResMed, she spent over 6 years as VP of Research at Propeller Health, developing its clinical and population health research efforts. She is passionate about using unprecedented digital health data to understand and improve health outcomes across multiple levels: for individuals, for clinical care, and for communities. At Propeller, she leveraged data from digital inhaler sensors to generate insights about how social and environmental factors, such as air pollution and the built environment, influence spatiotemporal patterns of respiratory disease. She trained in population health with the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Health & Society Postdoctoral Scholar at the University of California Berkeley School of Public Health and UC San Francisco Center for Health and Community. She completed her PhD in Ecology with a focus on global health at Duke University, where she was a National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellow. Her research has been published in Science, Health Affairs, Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, Environmental Health Perspectives, among other journals.
Adam Benjafield, PhD
Dr. Adam Benjafield is Vice President of the Clinical Research & Strategy within Medical Affairs at ResMed. He holds a Bachelor of Medical Science and PhD in Medicine from the University of Sydney. He has led over 150 clinical studies ranging from product development to support regulatory approvals through to multi-centre international randomized controlled trials. He leads the ResMed global evidence generation program for Sleep and is leader of the ResMed Science Center. Dr. Benjafield has nearly 20 years of experience in clinical research, in industry and academia, and with his team liaise with top researchers to further the field with a focus on showing the clinical and economic value of treating sleep disordered breathing.
Carlos M. Nunez, M.D.
Dr. Carlos M. Nunez was appointed ResMed’s Chief Medical Officer in January 2017. Prior to joining ResMed, he was Senior Vice President of Medical Affairs at Becton, Dickinson and Company, leading the Office of Science, Medicine and Technology for its largest division. Before that, he was Chief Medical Officer at CareFusion, where he built and led a global team that provided company-wide medical oversight. From 2000 to 2011, Carlos was Chief Physician Executive at Picis, Inc., an industry-leading medical informatics company that became part of the Optum division of UnitedHealth Group. At Picis/Optum, Carlos provided medical leadership and clinical direction for corporate strategy, marketing, product development, sales, implementation and customer relations for global markets.
Kimberly L. Sterling, PharmD, MS
Dr. Kimberly L. Sterling is Vice President of the Health Economics and Outcomes Research team within Medical Affairs at ResMed. Kimberly serves as a key leader within the Medical Affairs organization, responsible for the development of scientific evidence that demonstrates the value of ResMed device and digital solutions, with a significant focus on research that supports gaining, maintaining, and expanding patient and provider access.
Prior to joining ResMed in 2019, Kimberly held a variety of positions at Eli Lilly & Company and Sanofi, focused on HEOR strategy & implementation, scientific communication to payers and engagement with health technology assessment organizations. She has 20 years of HEOR experience within the pharmaceutical and medical device industries. Kimberly received her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Butler University then went on to receive her Master of Science degree in Pharmaceutical Economics and Policy at the University of Southern California. In addition to her current sleep and respiratory medicine research at ResMed, she has published HEOR studies for multiple other diseases including bipolar disorder, cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, and autoimmune diseases in peer-reviewed journals.
